Somewhere other than Houston

Monday, originally uploaded by Rob Carey2.

August 9, 2010. I did this drawing today just to see if anyone can figure out what city this is. As you might know, I'm a teacher, and I do goofy things like this every now and then to mix it up. By way of a clue, I've never been to this city, but I know for certain that one of the readers of this blog lives near this spot. (And, by the way, I also know for certain there are at least 2 people who follow my blog. One of you, a complete stranger, walked up to me the other day, introduced yourself, and said you enjoy reading the blog. I won't mention your name, but I will say that you are from Houston, and this is definitely not Houston.)

I guess this drawing is of the capital of Artichokistan!

Although incorrect, you have by far the closest guess up to this point! :) Artichokistan must be located somewhere in north Africa, I would assume, as that is where this thistle is thought to originate from.

I'm going to wing this one; Algiers? Orrrrr... Tripoli? By the way, what a great drawing, I love it! :)

I know I am not the reader near this spot. But I did find it on google maps.

I am also a complete stranger who also follows your blog. I believe I have yet to officially meet you, though I may have said Hallo to you while walking to Sitzenkirch, to which you replied Hi. And then I felt dumb.

I have no idea where this is. Perhaps somewhere in Spain.

Enirehtac (Catherine?) - Sorry, but thanks for trying! I'll have to do this again some time. I once did a cartoon and had a little caption contest for it, then gave away a little sketch to the winner.

Ryan- You got it! Although your link shows the other side of the building, that's it. You saw the little clue- the name of the store. Very good! I'll wire the prize money soon. :)

Dani- You definitely got the country- way to go!! Crazy that I said "Hi." I very vaguely remember that, but don't worry, I say "hi" to local German people too occasionally. I think you know my wife already???

In these days, however, you can get artichoke all over the place! Even 700 km from your house :D
Did I mentioned your drawing is really good?

Yep, I've definitely met your wife. Been spending a bit of quality time with her in the morning while snacking on yummy German pastries. Hope we get to meet soon!
