the basics

Rob's sketching tools, originally uploaded by Rob Carey2.

November 7, 2010. I thought I'd show the basic tools I use when I'm out sketching. The little Winsor & Newton field box set was a gift from my mom many years ago, when I had no interest in using watercolor. I noticed that they're still available online, although I don't see them in stores. Mine will probably last me ten years.

I love to see your tools. What colours do you use?

Your eye for detail amazes me, how you captured this simple little kit...I love it!! the paints...so realistic.Of course now I'm thinking I would paint more "if I just had one of these forgetting that you lent it to me for a few months and I did not touch it:).

Miss you already!

I'm not sure which colors I use, Rene. I like to mix every combination of colors in my box that i have, and I don't know the names of any of them! This field kit has some nice colors, so I should find out one of these days.

What did you sketch on the trip back to the States? (mom) Are you going to post them?

I really like your latest stuff Rob. The use of watercolor and your increasingly tight style are working quite nicely.

Always a pleasure to read your blog Rob, I was wondering what you used for your work. Nice to see those materials being put to such good use.
