Thank you, Capt Elaine. The story of the truce is true, although the character contrived for the story. I have heard many different stories based on separate incidents that occurred along the front lines that year the days before Christmas.
Inspiring story isn't it. On the cynical side: it's hard to realise they all went back the next day to fire bullets and lethal gas to the ones they shared these moments with.
Yeah, I know. Although I've read from some accounts that after both sides realized the futility of the charges, they minimized their efforts considerably in order to save lives. Some soldiers even dug tunnels across no man's land in order to share supplies with the enemy.
